Read This Moving And Very Funny Letter From An Ex-Slave To His Former Master

The letter was written, or dictated, by Jourdan Anderson and sent to his former master, Colonel P.H. Anderson. Jourdan had been living in Ohio, earning wages as a free man. Colonel Anderson had written Jourdan asking him to come back and work on the farm again.

The letter's tone is at times friendly and funny, but it very pointedly points to the cruelties of the former relationship between master and slave.
