At the Mt. Vernon Development Meet (freshman and sophomores only) and against big schools, including Mt. Vernon, New Rochelle, Port Chester, and Iona.
Tim's second throw (they each get three) was 103 feet 6 inches. They were using a lighter discus then he has been using, since it was an all-freshman event. The second place throw was 94 feet, so Tim won by a lot!
Here's a funny conversation about a half hour after Tim's event. Three Iona boys from that event were walking past Brigid and I, when an Iona pole vaulter came up to them and here's the conversation:
Pole vaulter: "Did you win"
Discus guy: "No."
Poll vaulter: "Well who won?"
Discus guy: "Some kid from Stepinac."
Me: "Hey, he was pretty good, wasn't he?"
Discus guy: "Yes he was." (No way he knew I was Tim's Dad).
Tim also ran in a relay - 4 x 200. He'd never run a 200 before. Stepinac finished 2nd out of six in the relay.
When we got home Tim and I went to the gym. He benched with dumbbells - worked up to 4 reps at 90 lbs. - and squatted 275.
Here he is in his flourescent sneakers after the meet -
Next meet is Saturday, in Ossining.
Congratulations, Tim!! That was an incredible win! You must have seriously demoralized the other team. Mary
