Lou Dobbs, who is now on the radio and online, as well as having his CNN show, has posted a "Town Hall of Shame" listing, nailing Congressional politicians who are refusing to hold town hall meetings.
The list includes Eliot Engel, from a New York congressional district that includes parts of Westchester and the Bronx. He's doing "teleconference town hall meetings."
It also includes my Congressman, John Hall, who is in his second term. Since he entered Congress, his website has had a banner saying "Healthcare for All" prominently posted. I have been on his email list since he went into Congress.
For the last ten days or so, either I or my business assoicate Judy Anderson has called his office for info on any Town Hall meetings he's planning. We've been told, "they are in the planning stages" and "We are organizing the logistics" and "the list of times and places will be up on our website first. Then we'll email them to our list."
Other people were told that Hall would be holding three town hall meetings the last week of August (that's next week).
It looks like it's all baloney. And it's really irritating. Instead Congressman Hall has been putting stuff up on his website (no emails) called Congress on Your Corner , giving very short notice of his appearances at various venues. If you hit the link, you'll see two events he scheduled today, but they weren't posted yesterday afternoon when we checked - so they were posted either last night or this morning And no email information sent out.
So - is it reasonable to conclude Hall is ducking the public? Ideologically, Hall is a Pelosi clone, which probably doesn't go down real well in this district. The former lead singer for the 70's group Orleans John Hall (U.S. politician) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia , he was able to raise a good sum of money through the entertainment industry when he ran and won in 2006.
I am glad to see he's one of the Democratic Congressman the Republicans have targeted for the 2010 Congressional election.
