That's Betsy Kiley, wife of larger-than-life rugby player Colin Kiley.
A quick history. I played rugby for Essex RFC with Colin from 1973-77, before I took off for the Caribbean. That includes the "story of '76", when we were the NY champions, and played well (but lost) against the England champions Gosforth. And Colin played for the Met Union All-stars against France (uhh, France won by a lot to a little) the same spring.
So I got to know Betsy well, as we frequently did rugby trips to Phillie, or Washington DC, and other spots on the east coast.
Anyway, that's all past tense.
Now Betsy and Colin (both of them teachers, with two grown sons) are in process of retiring to Cape Cod. Betsy was back in CT. last weekend (the 15th), while Colin was holding down the fort at the Cape. So we met up at Chuck's Steak house in Danbury.
Betsy was her usual personable, intelligent, humorous lady, and we had a great time.
"I PLAYED RUGBY WITH COLIN KILEY" - love that t-shirt. Had it made about 12 years ago when we were both doing a lot of coaching. It only comes out for special occasions.
like that shirt so much, here it is again.
Betsy shows the same reaction as most normal people to my sense of humor...
Go Betsy go!
Will have to reprise dinner in the fall.
