Whew. And we hadn't even planned on trying to do a PB (personal best for the uninitiated) this afternoon. But after working his way up to doing 185 lbs. for two sets of three reps each, he said he felt really good and wanted to try and do two reps at 205 lbs. His previous best was 205 for one rep.
I told him that, having worked his way up from 135 lbs to 185, doing multiple reps, there was no way he'd even do one rep at 205.
Hah! I was wrong. He did two, without much of a struggle. So we decided to go for a new best at 210, but then changed it to 215.
He did one rep at 215. As he quickly pointed out, that's only ten pounds short of putting two big discs on either end of the bar, which he loves the idea of - it just looks cool.
Good for Tim. Since he started lifting weights back in December (when he turned 14 and could go to the NYSC for $20/month) and doing cardio (but not enough of that) he's really made progress. His weight has dropped a couple of pounds, but more importantly, it's now distributed much better. His face is thinner, gut has shrunk, arms, shoulders, and chest bigger, along with bigger butt glutes, and thighs. He ALWAYS goes to the gym with me - no weightlifting without my being there.
Football practice starts August 24th.
