His column is already up online and will be in the NYT Sunday magazine section.
Asking Candidates Tougher Questions About Faith
The ignorance is embarrassing. A small error (which has since been corrected in the online edition) - he said Rick Santorum, ex-Senator of Pennsylvania and now running for President, was a fervent evangelical. You would think that as chief editor of the NY Times he would know that Santorum was one of the best known recent Catholic Senators, and is in fact the only Catholic running for the Republican presidential nomination. But that a minor quibble, compared to the other dopey things he says.
This is cute:
Every faith has its baggage, and every faith holds beliefs that will seem bizarre to outsiders. I grew up believing that a priest could turn a bread wafer into the actual flesh of Christ.
And plenty more as he pounds away. You can go here NYT takes on aliens, baggage, Trojan horse faith or here Translating Bill Keller for further discussion.
This is a sad commentary of the times in which we live. Th man is sad. We should pray for him.
