Way back on November 30th, 2010, I DVR'd this highly acclaimed documentary film, which is about a U.S. Army platoon and their 15 month assignment in the Korengal Valley of Afghanistan.
The film was by Sebastian Junger (author of, among other things, The Perfect Storm) and the late Tim Hetherington (who died in April, hit by mortar fire while covering the Libyan Civil War).
I put off viewing it (over a year!) - have to be in a certain mood for a film like this - but last night our DVR started acting up. If it failed, we couldn't recover what's on the hard drive, so Brigid and I watched it.
It is brilliant and riveting - highly, highly recommended by both of us.
Go here for some information. RESTREPO: One platoon, one valley, one year
The name comes from the name of the unit's advanced Observation Post, which the platoon named for Juan Restrepo, a medic who was killed early in their stay in the valley.
A Must See Film, with no political agenda or statements. We've ordered a couple of DVD copies, and are going to pass them around.
