Hard to believe it's already four days since I took these pictures.
Here are the first two postings of my little Sandy Storm Trilogy. Sunday morning - Sunday morning before the storm - Half Moon Bay to Croton Landing and than Monday High noon, as Hurricane Sandy closes in .
We lost our power Monday at 8:55 in the evening and stayed put for the brunt of the storm on Tuesday. Only connection to the outside was a crank radio and late night drive into Croton. Modest amount of rain through the day but very windy. By Wednesday the wind had subsided so Brigid and I headed over to Half Moon Bay/Senasqua/Croton Landing for a scout around.
Here's the view looking north from Half Moon Bay, and it looks milder than the other two days; Senaqua Park is not underwater, the way it was on Sunday and Monday (hit the links above). And looking into the Half Moon Bay Marina, all the boats look OK.
We then drove the 500+ yards down the road to Senasqua Park - and the sailing school had taken a hit ...
Here's Senasqua itself, not looking too bad.
We hopped back in the car and went up the little road toward Croton Landing, and passing the Croton Yacht Club. Sad-looking!
We parked in the Croton Landing parking lot, and there to our right was this -
At first, I thought that it had been swept up onto the train car by the storm surge up the Hudson - amazing! But it actually had been lifted by a crane onto the car by the railway people - presumably to get it off the tracks that it HAD been swept onto.
Then walking in to Croton Landing, tucked in behind the rest rooms ... almost as if it was parked there
"The Discreet". And that's a port-a-pottie on it's side against the fence.
Further along, "Lois"
And then, a qurter of a mile away, at the end of the Croton Landing walk and beyond the 9-11 Memorial Girder - another good-sized boat.
The cement blocks liningthe end of the walk at the Landing took big hits.
At the north end of Croton Landing, we ran into our friend Damian and Jeanne Marie Gagnon who were also scouting around. Funny coincidence, since they were coming over to our house that evening for halloween.
And, there's the boat up on the shore.
Damian, trying to figure out his phone ...
On the way back to our cars, Brigid spotted a "crocodile" & took a couple of pictures.
And we gawked at the beached boats. As I said to Jeanne Marie "We are wallowing in other peoples' suffering."
So that is it. Wednesday evening we had a nice "Mexi-Go" chicken meal at our house, courtesy of the Gagnons, while the boys went out for a few hours to friends houses. I was back at Croton Landing yesterday - Saturday - and while the boats at the marinas have been straightened out, and the boat beyond the Memorial is no longer there, none of the others had been moved.
