A neighbor's little boy wanted to be Superman. The parents decided it was not "socially appropriate" (huh?). He wanted to be a cowboy (violence towards animals, a no-go). He wanted to be a ninja (culturally inappropriate) and besides, he couldn't have a sword. They recommended "safe characters" like an astronaut or a baseball player (but no bat, just a ball and glove).

Their son has lost all interest and is staying home instead. The parents don't understand.

And we couldn't even begin to explain it to them so we just smiled and went home.
