NW 332

Why would 55 bishops vote against it? Maybe because despite the Conference’s typical ecclesiastical double-speak, many bishops are loathe to politicize the Holy Eucharist.

Well the eucharist was already politicized - by not doing anything about it when previously prolife catholics like Kennedy, Durbin, Leahy, Pelosi, and any # of others I could list suddenly changed their stance. By not doing anything 40 years ago it was politicized. When the Archbishop of New Orleans excommunicated 3 racists the NY Times didn't accuse him of politics. Anyway I'm sure they'll just write a general document - as the excerpt says, it's up to each local Bishop. Durbin was told years ago not to take communion.

Vatican 2 - "Abortion and infanticide are unspeakable crimes"

I have to agree with Tom here. This issue has long been politicized. Also, I'm not sure that leaving it up to individual bishops is the way to go go though---and will only result in a more patchwork application of faith-based issues.....ultimately that serves no one in my opinion...
