Yay for Kieran! A good guy - met him a couple of times - and he could have stayed in office forever. A former teacher and marine veteran, he's republican and the district is solid republican - Assembly District 105 north of Farandaville, which includes places like Fishkill and Pawling. So after easily winning five straight two year terms, he is term limiting himself. I totally believe in term limits.
Here's his press release.
I believe Americans should be governed by citizen legislators rather than career politicians. I ran for the New York State Assembly pledging to only serve a limited number of terms. Today I announce that this will be my final term in the Assembly. Over the final fourteen months of the term, I will continue to work relentlessly for the citizens of this district and be a loud and effective voice for my constituents. After the term is over at the end of 2022 I will remain actively engaged in the fight for liberty as a private citizen.
Albany already has its fill of self-serving legislators from both sides of the aisle who are long on ambition but short on experience, independence, and political courage. We don’t need an Assembly Member who comes from and is therefore beholden to the political establishment. The district that I have proudly served for the past eight years must be represented by someone who is willing to take on both parties and fearlessly fight for reform. That’s why I am enthusiastically supporting Kira Gorman to run for this seat. Like me, Kira is an independent conservative Republican. She has been my Chief of Staff for nearly five years and is therefore uniquely qualified to hit the ground running on day one. I look forward to working tirelessly on Kira’s grassroots campaign.
