The city has to prevent tragedies in every way possible. Those old-time TV public service announcements actually work. People want to do the right thing but might not have the right info. This time of year, fires caused by indoor candles, dry Christmas trees, space heaters, even people leaving gas ovens open for heat...all are preventable fires. May the victims rest in peace and their families be comforted.

Nancy you are so right. This time of year especially with low temperatures and people trying to keep their apartments warm - these horrible accidents happen

Sorry. That loss of life is a horrible tragedy…but the blame does not lie with the tenants of these apartments who are just trying to survive… it is on the hands of the building owners, who don’t provide enough heat in the first place. That’s what causes people to seek space heaters to counteract the frigid temps.

It certainly not the tenants fault. Will see what the investigation shows. Full disclosure - we use room space heaters at times and mostly we have adequate heat in our own home.
